Arkansas has provided a very neat site for you to hang out at…if you like photography, that is! It is online and called “Capture Arkansas.” You get to upload your photos for people to vote on…AND you get to vote on other photos. It is a place where you can start to really develop an eye for photography. Every year, they tally the votes and the winners get published. Last year, it was a coffee table book and this year, it is in a calendar.
I was floored when I got an email saying I had been published. God gave me photography 3 years and 8 months ago. I had just lost my sister and God knew photography would help me in that journey of grief. I never dreamed that He would bring me this far…and let me take pictures for you to cherish for a lifetime! It is an honor and a gift and everyday I praise Him for this outlet.
There were 2900 photographers that submitted 116,854 photos into the contest this year! Over 4.6 million votes were cast during the span of the year.
I laugh out loud that a “food” photo was chosen…but I will never forget the story behind this photo. I was making PB cookies with Reese’s cups but I was one Reese’s cup shy. I found a Hershey’s kiss and gave that final cookie the impression of a kiss instead.
Sam (our youngest) gasped when he saw all the cookies. “Look Mom, this one is different!” It was such a spiritual moment between us as I peered down into his baby blues and told him that when God created him, he created him like no one else. I told him he is unique and loved and that he bears the impression of the kiss of his Creator.
You do, too! I really want my photos to point to God’s glory, and I think that God has honored that…even in a food photo! Thanks for being on this journey with me!
